New Features
Add/Edit Purchase sped up

Continued improvements have greatly sped up adding a new purchase record or editing the details of an existing purchase record. Purchase records contain all of the information relevant to the purchase of new animals, including the identifications of the purchased animals, NVD number, vendor, trucking details and more.

Job Cards for routine tasks

If you need help with a routine recording task, check the Job Card list located on the website. To access the Job Card list click on the link "Step by Step Job Cards for Common Tasks" above where you click to enter Livestock Recording. Job Cards are routinely upgraded and new Job Cards are added as required.

Recording calves

With calving finished for most spring calving herds, thoughts turn to recording the details for all the new calves. Recording calves is easy in Livestock Recording, particularly if the matings have already been recorded against each female during joining. If embryo transfer has been used the matings should have been recorded including the details of each recipient female.

Before beginning to enter new calf details it is a good idea to set up an animal group to enter the calves into. You may like to call this group Calves_07, or something similar.

Calves, or any new animals, are entered using the Add Animal screen which is reached by clicking Animals on the Main Menu then Animal List on the Sub Menu then Add on the Active Menu.

Type the details for the first calf into the relevant boxes on this screen. Make sure you enter the BIRTH DAM tag in the Dam Tag: box. If the calf is an embryo, this will be the Recipient Dam's tag. If the Recipient dam is entered, Livestock Recording will calculate the Donor Dam Tag from the Recipient Dam's mating records.

If you have already recorded matings, you do not need to enter anything into the Sire Tag: box as Livestock Recording will calculate this for you from the Dam's mating records.

When you have completed entering the relevant details for the first calf click Save. A box will come up saying Record Saved, click OK. On the screen now, you will be able to see the Donor Dam Tag (if relevant) and the Sire Tag that Livestock Recording calculated using the Mating Records you have previously entered.

You can enter the details for the next calf over the top of the details on the screen. You do not have to do anything to the data in the Sire Tag: box as Livestock Recording will calculate the correct sire from the mating details you have previously entered for the Dam. When you have finished entering the details for each calf, click Save.

ProKollect PLUS at the "Ecca"

The Livestock Recording ProKollect data collection software, run on ProKollect PLUS, was used during the recent Brisbane Royal Show to record the weights and other details recorded for each of the cattle shown.

Mike Hemsley from Gallagher Australia provided the ProKollect PLUS unit for the cattle show and supervised the collection of all of the information needed on each of the show animals.
